Summary

Last autumn BMW has launched the facelift of its very successful X5 SAV vehicle. Among other modifications the V8 powertrain has been replaced by the new 4.4 ltr. V8 VALVETRONIC engine, combined with the 6 speed ZF automatic gearbox. This new powertrain is also the basis for the 4.8is high performance version as the successor of the 4.6is. Based on an increased displacement of 4.8 ltr. power and torque have been improved up to 265 kW and 500 Nm by several modifications of the base engine as well as the induction and exhaust system. At the same time the throttleless engine partload control VALVETRONIC and the 6 speed automatic gearbox reduce the fuel consumption by nearly 10%. The new intelligent BMW „xDrive“ 4 by 4 technology with an electronically controlled multiplate wet clutch in the transfer box enables a continuously variable distribution of the torque between the front and the rear axle within milliseconds. This unique solution not only improves the traction of the vehicle, but also delivers, integrated in the BMW Dynamic Stability Control system, additional driving stability and safety. The new powertrain with the high performance and fuel efficient V8-engine, the 6 speed automatic gearbox and the xDrive system gives the BMW X5 4.8is an outstanding combination of road performance, fuel economy, comfort, traction, safety and of course driving pleasure.
