Summary

Combined slip of a tire is the situation in which a combination of longitudinal and lateral slip is present. Up to now, tire modelling methods typically have a stronger focus on the pure longitudinal and lateral behavior only. This article focuses on further understanding tire behavior under combined slip conditions and designing a methodology, which takes combined slip into account. This is achieved by taking a deeper insight in the physical phenomena that determine combined slip and by analyzing all the steps required to model these phenomena. In conclusion, a recommendation is given on how to deal with combined slip behavior throughout the complete tire modelling process from measurements to simulation, finding the optimal balance between accuracy and process effort.
