Summary
Electrified vehicles are on the rise, as they represent an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to conventional vehicles. Electric drive units (EDUs) play an important role in this, as they provide electric propulsion and thus enable the vehicles to move.
In this paper, an overview of customized EDUs in applications from micro mobility to heavy-duty applications is given. A market overview for electrified vehicles and different applications is given and the most important design criteria for EDUs are explained. Functional and non-functional requirements must be considered, such as performance, efficiency, NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) performance, durability, sustainability, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and serviceability.
