Summary
Toyota is selling cars in over 170 markets, and around the world vehicle owners and the use of their vehicles are very diverse. Toyota aims to provide every customer with an appropriate solution that allows them to reduce their carbon footprint now. Based on this, Toyota's plan for the next 10-15 years is to offer diverse powertrains for diverse circumstances, to reduce carbon emission as soon as possible. This approach ensures that nobody is left behind in the quest to reduce carbon emissions and illustrates why Toyota sees an ongoing key role for hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology in the years to come. At the same time, it is necessary to prepare technology development and introduction of future carbon neutral mobility. This includes battery electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) as well as combustion engines running on hydrogen or carbon neutral fuels, thus also making hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs, PHEVs) carbon neutral. Since the introduction of the first-generation Prius, more than 20 million electrified Toyota and Lexus vehicles have been sold. By 2030, Toyota and Lexus are targeting annual sales of 8 million electrified vehicles including 3.5 million BEVs and 30 BEV models. Considering that markets have different energy supply mixes with different levels of charging and hydrogen infrastructure, technology rollout in the various markets may differ significantly.
