Summary
The field of Onboard sensors varies as much as the applications for Onboard sensors itself .The range of sensors starts with sensors for regular measurement of the combustion pressure by means of hand held indicators via the indicator valve and reaches the technology summit in sensors installed in the cylinder head for permanent combustion pressure measurement for closed loop engine control. That article will give the reader an overview over the motivation for the use of combustion pressure sensors and will deduce the demand on sensors from sensor manufacturer point of view. Furthermore some details of the sensor design for meeting the requirements will be explained in detail.
