Summary

The BMW Group has deliberately created a broad technological basis in order to be able to offer customers worldwide customized solutions for various future requirements. ln the future, there will be different drives for different purposes and requirements - revolutionary alternative drives and evolutionary conventional drives, as well as mixed forms (all-electric drives with/without range extender, plug-in hybrids, hybrids, conventional drives, hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles). Electric mobility will continue to be characterized by a variety of concepts and marketspecific demands for a long time to come; there won't be a one-fits-all solution. ln the long term, the BMW Group expects the coexistence of BEV and high electrification. ln the compact and urban segments, there will be stable growth in demand for BEVs; larger cars, however, will still require a combustion engine in the medium term. But the Ievel of electrification will increase massively anyway. Consequently, the combustion engine will develop into an energy supplier, an auxiliary power unit, in the long term. A clear trend towards increased e-performance and electric driving is very apparent. ln terms of characteristics, costs, weight and quality, there are communal challenges regarding the industrialization of the battery, the powertrain and the energy management.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
