Summary

This paper presents the development of a modular high-voltage battery platform for the 5th generation BMW electric powertrain. The 5th generation BMW electric powertrain is integrated in a flexible vehicle architecture and applied across a broad range of vehicle segments. Key challenge in the development of the modular battery platform was to balance requirements of different vehicle segments while maintaining simplicity and cost-effectiveness. This is reflected in the design and integration of all battery components, which is outlined using the iX1 as an example.
