Summary

As correspondence to concern of global warming and depletion of oil resources, movement of CO2 emission reduction and energy security becomes active worldwide.
Especially in Europe, CAFÉ and emission regulation is becoming more severe year by year, global demand for spreading clean vehicle with low CO2 emission is highest ever.
In this background, seven years past from the release of the current Yaris hybrid, we newly developed the 1.5L hybrid system consisted with world top-class fuel economy and power performance achieving fun to drive for next-generation compact vehicles.
The new 1.5L hybrid system adopts 3 cylinders engine for exclusive use of the hybrid vehicles which balanced high thermal efficiency and torque by high-speed combustion based on the philosophy of TNGA, Li-ion battery with expanded input and output power in small size and light weight, motor achieved increased output density and loss reduction, transaxle developed with enhanced lubrication method contributing to higher transmission efficiency, PCU with new power semiconductor and new control technology increasing total system efficiency.
As a matter of course fuel economy, we achieved Fun To Drive by linear driving force characteristic for accel-pedal operation, which comes from enhanced absolute power by increasing engine output power and torque and motor torque assist by increased battery output.
In this paper, performance of the newly developed hybrid system for next-generation compact vehicles and supporting technologies are introduced.
