Summary
Against the backdrop of rising cost pressure, reaching the NOx emission limits demanded by the legislator while at the same time reducing CO2 and noise emissions represents the central challenge to engine developers. The investigations in this paper show various approaches to resolve this trade-off. This analysis includes both conventional and unconventional combustion processes as well as different hardware measures. With a view to incorporating the results obtained in the engine map and integrating them in an appropriate control strategy, an evaluation is made and the optimized configuration is implemented in a demonstrator vehicle. This provides the basis for obtaining information on achieving the different aims in the driving cycle.
