Summary

The research project auto.bus - Seestadt1 is funded by the Austrian Ministry of Transport as part of the "Mobility of the Future" programme. "Autonomous driving is a megatrend that has the potential to transform cities in the long term.
Based on the planned technological innovations, the auto.bus - Seestadt project seeks to facilitate a quality leap for the operation of future autonomous bus lines. The aim is to achieve a sustainable increase in the efficiency and operational safety of autonomous vehicles in order to ultimately be able to test a bus line under real life conditions in Seestadt Aspern with bus stops, a timetable and passengers.
Seestadt Aspern offers an ideal environment for testing a pilot bus line. On the one hand, an urban environment has been created here that is nevertheless less complex than routes in the city centre. On the other hand, Seestadt Aspern is an innovative residential environment – an “urban lab” that serves as a testing ground for the Smart City Vienna.
